Adolph Linden spared no expense to bring the country’s finest musicians to Seattle for KJR’s summer concert broadcasts in 1929. Mischa Mischakoff (left), one of the nation’s leading violinists, led the Mischakoff Quartet (Ennio Bolognini, cello; Jascha Veissi, violin; and Leon Barzin, Jr., viola). The outdoor concerts were held at Husky Stadium, but the non-stop Seattle rain killed attendance and revenue. This, along with the other mounting costs of KJR finally brought down Linden’s financial house of cards, and many musicians left Seattle without being paid.
