Lee DeForest Operates 6XC
Lee DeForest operated his station 6XC from the
California Theater (below) at Fourth and Market Streets from April, 1920 to
November, 1921. He had previously operated this equipment at his
broadcasting station in New York. At left, he is shown demonstrating his
500 watt transmitter to entertainer Mary White. At right, soprano Ruth Phipps sings over the station.
In late 1921, the transmitter was moved to Oakland
and 6XC became KZY, the Rock Ridge Station.
