Ernie Smith was one of San Francisco's best-known sports
announcers in the
1930s and 40s. Starting as a newspaper sports reporter, he
started in radio at KYA in the 1930s and moved to KGO and NBC in the
40s. His enthusiastic, detailed descriptions of sporting
events won him a loyal following among radio listeners.
