The photo at left shows the original KYA self supporting tower after it fell to the ground on February 14, 1986 in 115 mph winds. It was determined that the cause of the failure was a faulty tower section. The photo at the right shows the new guyed tower which replaced it. The original tower foundation can be seen below it (compare this to the 1937 site picture).
