NBC announcer Milton Cross is best remembered for hosting the weekly live broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera from 1931 to 1975. He joined the staff of RCA station WJZ as a singer in 1921 before moving into announcing. When NBC acquired WJZ in 1926, he became one of the network's foremost announcers. His formal announcing style and precise diction made him a natural for highbrow programs such as the Met broadcasts, but he also hosted many other NBC shows through the 1940's and beyond.
